Yasmin Sewell - The Girl from Oz Pt 6

It was nice to see Yasmin back at the Fashion Weeks, after her little 'hiatus' (quite brief!), in which she, oh...'only' had a little baby boy (blonde and blue-eyed Knox Rocket Robinson) and got married in January to Australian Kyle Robinson, owner of wholesale showroom Paper Mache Tiger here in Oz.

When it comes to dressing herself, Sewell prefers a masculine aesthetic finding her style hereos in Woody Allen movies and icons such as Katherine Hepburn and Lauren Hutton. "I believe in a natural, unaffected beauty - a style that doesn't look like it's trying too hard. It needs to be relaxed".

"Honestly I think it all starts with the hair. If you understand what hair suits you then the rest will come together. I look ridiculous with long curly hair - crazy - but if my hair is cut sharp then somehow my look is balanced. If a woman knows what hairstyle truly suits her then the rest will come".

I haven't changed my hairstyle in years! Hopefully it's the one that suits me best...

For some reason I hadn't pictured such a feminine dress on Yasmin for her wedding, but she looks absolutely stunning! The colour? Perfect!

Below are snaps of Yasmin at the recent 'Fashion Week' season, gorgeous tailoring and glorious colours!

Gorgeous cut and colour on that blazer!

Finding your own style

When you’re out shopping, or browsing the pages of online fashion companies, it can often be quite overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. Finding a look that you’re comfortable with is important, and can be great fun. Experiment and try a number of different things, because variety is the spice of life. So whether you want to wear Ugg boots or leather boots during the winter months, the choice is yours.

There are also a number of online shops for you to choose from – including high-street retailer Oasis – so you can spend some time finding the right style to suit you. Don’t be afraid to try different things and if you feel like experimenting, then by all means, do! Fashion is about expressing who you are as a person by using your clothing as a canvas, so make sure you paint a picture that’s exactly to your taste.

Here are a few key items to help get your look started:

Jeans

Jeans are the cornerstone of many a fashion lover’s wardrobe, as they’re easy to dress up or down. They’re also amazing comfortable, and there are plenty of styles to suit every body shape. From skinnies to boyfriend jeans, straight leg, and flares – do a little research to find out which pair complements your figure best.

Skirts

Skirts are mostly about a single factor – length. Whether you prefer long, minis or three-quarter length styles, a skirt is an essential component of every woman’s wardrobe.

Accessories

Although basic garments – such as tops, jeans, skirts, shorts and shoes – create the foundation of a look, accessories are important when it comes to finishing it off, with the ability to dress any outfit up or down. Make sure that you buy accessories that you love and want to wear – your wardrobe will be all the better for it.

Finding your own style is something which will take many years. Remember there is no rush, though, as it’s all about the journey, after all. Try different things, experiment with looks, colours, textures and styles and you’re sure to find a style that perfectly expresses who and what you are!

Lil' Brigs B'day Pressie Sneak Peek - Erdem's Prussian Swallow Silk Pug

One of my favourite Erdem prints ever is his Prussian Swallow print from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection (along with the floral print I am so happy to have in the Maggie maxi skirt and matching Monique shirt). I was too excited for words when I found out Erdem had made some limited edition silk pugs (only 25 of this print were made) for Start London, I just had to have one. But, what was I to do with a little silk pug?

This time next week Lil' Brigs will be 2 years old! Can you believe how time flies (it seems like yesterday I announced her arrival)? I certainly cannot! But I have now found the perfect excuse to have one of these cute little pugs in my house. For those who 'like' me on Facebook may have read in a previous Facebook post, I got the cute little pug for her (as a birthday present - one I can appreciate at the same time - for 'Simpsons' fans out there, remember when Homer gave Marge a bowling ball as a present? I told Mr Brigs that he can give the more 'practical' gift, haha!), and here it is:

Shop at Brigadeiro's: Chloe's iconic runway green silk jumpsuit

I am sadly and reluctantly parting with one my most prized wardrobe possessions, because it sadly hasn't left the wardrobe doors, between being pregnant, then nursing, then not fitting into it, fitting back into it, only to find I was pregnant again...

It deserves to go to a good home where it is better appreciated...boo hoo!

Brand new, I may still have the tags somewhere, purchased from Intermix NY, and RRP $2,175. I am selling it for a fraction of that price, as I want to make sure it goes to a good home before I have Lil' Brigs #2:

US$450 o.n.o.

Size FR 38

I just bought myself the Rag & Bone Newbury boots in black leather (saving $100 - not bad!), am hoping they are as comfortable and versatile as all the reviews describe them to be, and that they aren't too small (I bought my usual size as they didn't have the next half size up). With the colder weather coming soon, I hope to get a lot of wear out of them.

Fashion Musical Chairs - Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Stefano Pilati and Hedi Slimane

Between being perennially sick for the past month or more, having only four 'official' weeks of my pregnancy to go, and my house/life being absolute chaos at the moment, I realized I am quite 'out of the loop' fashion-wise, when I found out through my friend's husband (yes, husband! For some reason he always has finger firmly placed on the fashion pulse, even though he is in no way involved in that field) that Stefano Pilati left YSL to be replaced by Hedi Slimane. And then, I found out through lovely Modediktat's tweet, that Raf Simons was to be the new designer for Dior!

I laughed to myself that this really is 'Fashion Musical Chairs', and lo and behold, today I received an update email from AnOther magazine, saying the exact same thing, with the diagram I had imagined in my head:

Fashion Musical Chairs 2012 Diagram by Laura Bradley
(AnOther Magazine)

Who?
Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Hedi Slimane and Stefano Pilati – shifting places in the last 4 months.

What? It began with John Galliano's anti-Semitic comments last year and followed with the dismissal of the designer from Christian Dior; a position he had held since 1996. Next came the announcement in February that Jil Sander would return to her eponymous label she founded in 1968, leaving Raf Simons without a role as a womenswear designer. Following news that Stefano Pilati would leave Yves Saint Laurent, there were rumours that Simons was in talks with the Parisian house only to be quashed when the house announced Hedi Slimane as its new creative director. Simons destination was last night confirmed at Christian Dior, where he will oversee women's ready-to-wear, haute couture and accessory collections. Pilati's next move is yet to be announced.

Why? There are many interesting months ahead. In June, Hedi Slimane will debut women's resort and Sander, her men's ready-to-wear. In July, Simons will show his inaugural Dior couture collection. It's exciting to think about Simons' addition to the couture roster (and what difference it will make to the red carpet). "I am fascinated with what could be the relevance of the language of couture in the 21st Century", he told Cathy Horyn, a longstanding supporter of the Belgian designer, for The New York Times. Whilst it's still early days, it seems Simons is the perfect fit for the prestigious Parisian house. In his role at Jil Sander, he demonstrated an acute balance of modernity and elegance; particularly in his last two collections. In hindsight, the coat-clutching, Grace Kelly curls and sparkling jewellery were more in the vein of Dior than they were Sander, a house known for its minimalist codes. (...) Bring on the new Dior era.

(text above from AnOther magazine)

At first my mind boggled: Raf Simons for Dior???

But I agree with Laura Bradley that Raf's last collection did appear more Dior than Jil Sander:

How absolutely gorgeous is that dress on Browns Fashion? I swooned when I saw it, and swooned again when I saw its price tag...

"I don't think it's wrong to call me a minimalist. It's wrong to call me a minimalist only," Raf said. 'I am also a romantic person...when I'm married to a house, I will fully embrace its original intention, its heritage and meaning.' 'I wouldn't go to that place if I only had minimalism in mind. I'm very aware of what the environment is about.'

I cannot wait to see what he will bring to Dior's Couture show in July...
