New York Fashion Week: Fall 2011 Pt 6 Outerwear over Dresses - Rodarrte, Altuzzura, Vera Wang

Rodarte

With silk gowns printed with a wheat field at the hem, ankle-grazing prairie coats, leather and ponyskin separates with geometric insets that called to mind quilts, and a ruby red outfit that quietly screams 'Dorothy', this gorgeous collection by the Mulleavy sisters was 'Little House on the Prairie' meets 'Wizard of Oz'. The long coats worn over even longer dresses, as well as the wheat-printed flowy dresses made me swoon:

Altuzurra

As a huge fan of coats and outerwear, I was happy to see Joseph Altuzurra's shared interest in his AW'11 collection, with one great example after another, from parkas with furry hoods (worn over evening dresses) to tailored tweed trenches to a bomber/cape hybrid:

Vera Wang

Loved the floaty silk chiffon long dresses with a slight 1920's touch, as well as the pairing of feminine flowy pieces with beautifully constructed outerwear at Vera Wang:
