Luxe essential - Silk white tee by Ann and Albert

I’m a huge fan of wardrobe basics, especially when they’re given a little twist or are reimagined as a luxe essential. Take the humble white tee for example, fashioned in pure silk, with subtle adjustments like an elegantly curved hem by Sydney-based label Ann & Albert, it elevates the most casual look effortlessly.

Founded by Creative Director Leigh Goyen, Ann & Albert's collections features a range of luxe wardrobe essentials and exclusive limited edition pieces. Leigh’s multidisciplinary background as an architect and photographer inspired the refined elegance and minimalistic undertones that define Ann & Albert’s beautiful aesthetic: beautiful textiles, clean lines and strong silhouettes that create effortlessly sophisticated pieces.  You can check out more of Ann & Albert here.

Top: Kanso silk tee by Ann & Albert (available here), Necklace: Pivoine Lazuli embroidered necklace from Nini Peony (available here), Jeans: Le Skinny de Jeanne in Olympic wash by Frame Denim (available at Shopbop), Shoes: Chanel espadrilles, Watch: Daniel Wellington Men's Classic Sheffield (available at East Dane (i.e. Shopbop's counterpart), Need Supply Co. and at Selfridges), Bracelet: Celine (from Departement Feminin), Ring: Popbasic, Sunglasses: Ray Ban, Bag: Celine Trio (available here).

Labor Day Outfit in 'My Red Lippy' Panama hat

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

It was a lovely long one here Down Under with some lovely sunny weather (except for today), but for 3 days we got to sun it up in the pool and have a lovely time!

Outfit details:

Hat: My Red Lippy Panama:

I must admit I am terribly un-sun smart, and only ever think of wearing a hat when at the beach (and not even that at times).  When asked to wear a hat to my Lil' Brigs #1's 'pre-school's picnic lunch, I realized I didn't have a hat, and found out about 'My Red Lippy' later on that day.

After being diagnosed with a melanoma at 5 months pregnant with her second child, Sarah Curtis sought out beautiful hats with wide brims that actually kept the sun out to protect one's my skin.  After much disappointment of never finding the right hat that both looked great and was fully functional, she started ‘My Red Lippy’.  These Panama hats are handwoven in Ecuador, as Sarah works with an Ecuadorian Co-op that helps women and children through teaching the a trade, and have a wider brim than your usual Panama hat, to offer greater sun protection.  Reading about Sarah Curtis' story made me realize I really should be more sun-smart, and it's so great that I can do that whilst still being stylish!

Dress: Sundry Clothing (available at Shopbop):

You all know about my love for stripes, when I first put this dress on I had to do a double-take to inspect the fabric composition tag, as it is so so uber soft! I will be wearing this a lot in the next few months.

Shoes: Dries Van Noten sandals (from 2009 collection)

Bag: Celine Navy Trio

Watch: Larsson Jennings Chain Metal watch in black (available at Liberty, from Larsson Jennings and Net-a-Porter)

Sunglasses: Jimmy Fairly

Skincare: Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery with SPF 50 (available at Selfridges,  Adore Beauty and David Jones)

Pressed Juices (black!) Lemonade - yes, black! It is part of their new Spring Range, and I was intrigued, for those who are too, the black is due to the Activated Charcoal, which you cannot taste at all, it is simply an unsweetened lemonade, very refreshing, actually.

Johanna Basford colour-in postcards: bought this 'book' of postcards with Lil' Brigs #1 whilst on our 'date' at the Art Gallery last week, she loves it! (you can find the book version here - which I have since bought, as well as another set of the postcard book, it is too cute!)

Thanks to Gina at Torstar and Sarah Curtis for my hat, I love it!

Thanks to Kate at Bell Fashions for my Sundry dress, it is so beautifully soft I want to live in it!

My current skincare 'routine' - Elemis, Sunday Riley, Dermalogica and SK-II

I don't think my 'skincare routine' has ever consisted of this many products until now.  My first skincare 'splurge' was before I got married, 7 years ago, when instead of treating myself to a facial as many brides-to-be do, I decided to buy a few Dermalogica products instead, which included the Daily Microfoliant, the Special Cleansing Gel and the Smoothing Cream (which lasted me almost 7 years - that's how often or how much I used it, I did say I was lazy!).  Prior to that I just used whatever cleanser/moisturizer I'd find in the supermarket, or whatever product my mom would have around the house

I am by no makeup or skincare blogger, reviewer or connoisseur by any means, but I thought I'd share my current (and many long-standing) favourite skincare products (and save my favourite makeup products for another post), to justify all the time I spent reading countless reviews on each of them:

Warning: lengthiest and wordiest post in a long time.

CLEANSER:

SK II Cleansing Oil

I am too lazy to use a eye makeup remover and cleanse, so I simply use the SKII cleansing oil to do it in one go, it features a ""Lock and Lift"" formulation which allows oil to transform with water to gently lift away make-up and impurities from the skin.  I have previously used different brands of cleansing oils, but this is my favourite, especially because it doesn't make my eyes 'cloudy' (I wear contact lenses) and blurry after use.  My skin feels clean but not dry, and it does a good job of removing my eye makeup (and if it hasn't, I use a little of the oil on a cotton pad, as if it were an eye makeup remover, which I then rinse off).  I was recently surprised when I was told I should cleanse in addition to cleansing with the cleansing oil, and do so occasionally, I love Sunday Riley's Ceramic Slip cleanser as again, it is not drying, but leaves my skin soft and clean.

Available at Nordstrom, Sephora and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Dermalogica Microfoliant

I used to use this every morning, since discovering it 7 years ago.  I once ran out of this stuff, and my skin quickly showed me I needed it, so I swiftly repurchased (hubby also loves this).  I feel my skin is brighter and clearer with this, and only stopped using it daily when a SA at Mecca told me I shouldn't use this before an oil, as it'd cause breakouts.  She also said for it to really work I should leave it in for at least 2 minutes or so, as it is a 'chemical' exfoliant, rather than a 'physical' one.

Available at FragranceNet and Adorebeauty.

MOISTURIZER:

Sunday Riley 'Juno' Transformative Lipid Serum

This stuff is seriously amazing.  I had read all about Kahina Oil, but when I went into Mecca to buy it, only to find it wasn't stocked in that particular store, I was given a sample of this and was sold. Having just returned from an overseas trip, my skin reacted badly to coming back to the dry Australian weather.  After using a few drops of this at night, my skin went from being pink-ish, blotchy, bumpy and uncomfortable and itchy to glowing, smooth, and even-toned.  It even allowed me to go without foundation most days! I love being able to do so.  It smells a little like a salad dressing, but the smell quickly dissipates (plus I love its natural smell).  I merely warm two drops in the palms of my hands and press it onto my skin after cleansing at night.  The next morning - voila - glowing clear skin!

I raved about this product to my sister, and when she couldn't find it in stores (sold out) in the UK, she bought Sunday Riley's 'Good Genes', which I have since tried, and absolutely love.  This product makes my skin so smooth and glowy, I love it!

Available from Sephora and Net-a-Porter (seems they changed the packaging into one with a dropper!)

Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm

I use the Elemis Illuminating Flash Balm in the morning.  I now skip cleansing in the morning (just rinsing my face with water), or when I do cleanse, I use my Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, followed this balm under my makeup.  I have used the Clarins Flash Balm before, but this isn't like that.  This is like a lightweight moisturizer that imparts a glow under makeup that is not shimmer-related, it just looks radiant and healthy.  I find it acts like a primer under my foundation, and makes my makeup look...better, without going oily, and also last longer.  Very occasionally I will use a drop of my Sunday Riley Juno under this if I'm feeling particularly dry or dull-skinned.

Available at Nordstrom and Elemis.

EYE CREAM:

Elemis Absolute Eye Serum

Another Elemis product that peaked my interest was their 'eye creams'.  For the last 20 years I keep meaning to use an eye-cream regularly, but simply keep forgetting to do so.  Prior to this I was simply using the Garnier roll-on eye cream purchased at the supermarket, only because I saw my sister using it, and thought it looked straightforward enough for me to use.  I then discovered the concealer version of that roll-on, which guaranteed I remembered to use it, as that is one thing I absolutely need: concealer for my very dark circles.  I had run out of the Garnier roll-on for a few months, and thought it was better late than never to have a 'proper' eye cream.  This serum is great, my undereye skin feels refreshed and hydrated, I would like to think it also looks less puffy and dark.

Ok, so I haven't taken a before and after picture of my undereye circles to see whether this makes an actual visible difference, but the reviews I read on Makeupalley and elsewhere assures me these have worked on others well.  What I do know is that it is easy to apply, and I have been using it every night.  It is liquid and not oily, and is easily dispensed with a dropper, which is what I love about this product. I use one drop under each eye, and it is easily absorbed, doesn't feel oil or greasy, and doesn't sting my eyes.

Available at Elemis.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal

This is the actual 'eye gel' that I use over the serum, and again it is easy to use and easy to apply (easily absorbed, not greasy, oily or stinging to the eye - no milia issue either, which I know is the complaint of many eye creams).  I dispense a tiny amount and pat it under and around my eyes, it sinks in immediately which is great.  I am not a fan of having to work in an eye cream, and like it when a product is quickly absorbed.  I think the line(s) under my eye seem smoother and perhaps the bags less puffy, probably in combination with the serum (above).

Available at Elemis.

DIET:

Ok, I have included this 'Berry Glow' Pressed Juice in the pic below, because I love eating berries, not only because they are delicious, but because I like thinking that the abundant antioxidants in them are doing my skin good (blueberries in particular).  I also love eating salmon fillets (skin ON - crispy after barbecuing them, with the flesh pink in the middle), and I try to drink plenty of water.  Antioxidants + Omega 3's are great for good skin.

Now, as the years clock by, I think it's time to roll my sleeves up and put a little bit of effort in my skincare regimen.  Wear a hat, put on sunscreen...and not take my 'Asian' genes for granted (my mother has great skin, and both my grandmothers did too, although they have/had great skincare regimens).

What about you?  What are your favourite skincare products?

L to R: SK-II Cleansing Oil, Dermalogica Microfoliant, Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm, Sunday Riley Juno Lipid Serum, Elemis Absolute Eye Serum, Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal
My tools to fight my uber-dark undereye circles
 Travel essentials
all pics by me.

I am quite curious about the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine cream, their Enzyme Resurfacing Night cream and theirCellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules - I love how Elemis uses lovely Marine/Natural ingredients.  Has anyone used any of these products?

Wouldn't mind if everyday were Spa day!

Last week I had a delicious pampering spa session, courtesy of my sister, who gifted me a generous birthday gift last year.  Sure, it took me more than a half a year to actually get to the spa, but it was amazing!  In other news, late last week I received an email from Mercedez Benz Fashion Week, confirming my registration to the MBFW Australia, held in Sydney in April.  Now I just need to decide whether to go or not, the hardest part being my little ones.  It was so handy having my parents in Paris when I went there for Paris Couture week!

Country Road, take me home...I sure did!

I was just looking at my Instagram feed tonight, and realized that I seem to be a walking sitting ad for Country Road! When I first received their lookbook as an email subscriber, I knew my wallet was in trouble.  I managed to bypass womenswear (I know, shock horror!), but fell hard for their 'Home' range.  With its heavy Scandinavian flavoured homewares range in delectable pastels, and childrenswear with polkadots, gingham and chambray (and a lot of Stella McCartney Kids inspired designs) I already started shopping in my head.  Luckily (or not - for my wallet), they had a 'Spend and Save' deal a few weeks later, and I'm afraid the pictures below only shows a small portion of the damage done:

My new 'china' seems right at home with my midcentury Danish y-chair by Hans Wegner.  Got some cute clothes for my daughter, all of which I would've loved to ask: "Does this come in my size"?
I love the beautiful pinks that have been prevalent in the sartorial world lately, but it isn't a colour I wear often myself.  Now I get to use it everyday without wearing a stitch of pink!
Polkadots are something else I don't really wear, but find oh so cute!
Lef to right: Nars Yachiko brush, Giorgio Armani Rouge D'Armani, Nars blush duo (obviously I use this a lot!) in Orgasm/Laguna.
Iced latte anyone?
Last week I picked up a slice of my favourite Argentinian cake, called the 'Felicia Special' it is heaven on a plate, consisting of alternating layers of vanilla sponge, fresh whipped cream, sliced peaches and fresh meringue...oh yeah!
Also got myself some Alfajores while I was at Delicias Argentinas, enjoyed them while revisiting an old issue of Peut-être magazine (Issue 6)
What I wore last Friday: Celine Bam Bam sandals, Aurelie Bidermann Love Ring (available at Shopbop), Balenciaga Bow Ring (I bought from Matches Fashion), Benah cuff, Celine navy Trio bag  (available here) and Country Road polkadot pouch.

Did anyone else partake of the 'spend and save' deal? This was my first time (I usually ignore those emails), and am now trying really hard to resist the 'buy 2 get 1 free' deal!

David Szeto's 'In the Mood for Love' dress - Full Moon celebration

One of my favourite designers, David Szeto, was inspired by one of my favourite movies (for its fashion): 'In the Mood for Love' for his A/W 2008 collection, sharing the same title as the movie.  Needless to say, it is one of my favourite collections of his, and it is from this collection that most of my David Szeto pieces comes from.  In the movie, Maggie Cheung dons more than 20 qipao or cheongsam dresses, figure hugging, and in a plethora of prints and fabrics, they (and Maggie) steal the show.  My favourite David Szeto dress appears to be inspired by one of these dresses, and is brilliantly, beautifully and expertly cut to make it so the wearer can almost fake a Maggie Cheung slender body.  David Szeto is a genius when it comes to draping and cutting the fabric to highlight and flatter the female form...I thought it was the perfect dress to wear to my nephew's 1 month old 'full moon' celebration over the weekend.

I lightened the pic hoping to show the detailing of the dress, but unfortunately I could not do it justice

Two blasts from the past - Tom Ford for Gucci and Phoebe Philo for Chloe

One of my recent purchases has become a wardrobe staple, and a hard-working 'workhorse' of late: my Scanlan & Theodore boyfriend black jeans/pants.  Cropped, tastefully drop-crotched, they seem to work with any pair of shoes, from sneakers to stilettos, and with any outfit, from tee to blazer, to silk blouse.  I recently wore it with two favourite pieces in my wardrobe, a black and white embroidered blazer by Phoebe Philo for Chloe, and my Tom Ford for Gucci black patent stiletto heels.  Both from 'the good old days', that to me are as fresh as they day I bought them:

Outfit details: Chloe blazer, Gucci pumps, Celine Trio bag, Scanlan & Theodore pants (Giorgio Armani lipstick)
Isabel Marant Dicker boots - which I wore during the day (available here, here, here and here),
Gucci patent studded stilettos I changed into later (no longer available, but I found a similar pair here). Arum lillies from my garden...

Pics via my iPhone for Instagram

PS. You can follow me on Instagram HERE - I am afraid I update there much more regularly and daily than I do here...

A spot of Saturday shopping: Aurelie Bidermann's Love ring

I am usually a 'statement ring' kind of girl, which has meant big and bold.  Recently I have been yearning for something understated and delicate, enter this Aurelie Bidermann Love ring.  After tossing back and forth on whether I should click 'pay now', I finally took the plunge today, can't wait for it to arrive from Moda Operandi!

Love Ring by Aurelie Bidermann available here.

Today's OOTD worn to take Lil' Brigs #1 and #2 to the Zoo:

Black and white: Seed Ava two-tone leather espadrilles

Apologies for going MIA! I had my sister and little nephew visiting for over a week, and even though I've been pretty active on Instagram (if you haven't already, you can join me here), my poor blog has been neglected.

I thought I'd share one of my recent purchases (that didn't break the bank, thankfully), these leather espadrilles from Seed Heritage.  These things have been selling like hotcakes, so I bought them in two sizes to make sure I got the right fit.  As it turns out, I'm keeping my true size even though I found the run a bit long, and will keep the smaller size for my mom, who is finally returning to Australia next week! So excited!

Outfit details: Scanlan & Theodore boyfriend (drop crotch) pants (must post about this soon, these have been a workhorse since I bought them a few weeks ago), Celine Trio bag, Ray Ban folding wayfarers, Swiss Legend Karamica watch (i.e. the only watch I use, pretty much), SABA Kylie striped tee (available here).

 Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Seed Heritage striped espadrilles

I don't go into actual stores very often, but it's always so fun going into a Seed store, as the visual merchandising in the store is just gorgeous! The store sells baby, kids and women's clothing (I usually go for the kids clothing)
How cute are these headbands?
Even though I mostly go to Seed for the little ones, one day I found a scarf that soon became one of my favourite scarves, and I've always checked out their scarves since, as they always have a gorgeous range...  I recently caught wind that they had a wicked two-toned leather espadrille out (sold out online immediately), so I made an effort to go in store.  No leather espadrilles left (except for a size 41), but these were in store.
I tried one to figure out sizing...
They looked so cute on, I had to bring them home with me, and I could immediately picture them with so many outfits:

Look 1: Maje black dress, Celine Trio, Swisslegend watch, Jimmy Fairly sunglasses, Ek Thongprasert bracelet
Look 2: Sincerely Jules 'Viva la Moda' tee (available here), Chanel Boy bag, Zara denim shorts, Ray Ban folding wayfarer sunglasses

I got to wear them on Sunday (Father's Day here Down Under) which I'll share about in the next post.

Happy Hump Day everyone!
