My favourites from NYFW FW 2015: Adam Lippes, Isa Arfen, The Row, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Prabal Gurung and Vera Wang

It has been forever since I trawled the internet to see what has been happening on the catwalk (other than a select few favourite designers), but I realized that as time-consuming as it was, I missed doing so.  It has been even longer since I've posted my 'curated picks' of my favourite pieces from favourite shows, so I thought, better late than ever (and for my own reference later on)...

Here were some favourites from NYFW FW'15:

Adam Lippes 

I have long been a fan of Adam Lippes' aesthetic.  But ever since he rebought his name rights and relaunched his label to a more minimal and elegant (and unfortunately more 'exclusive' - i.e. expensive - bracket), it has only gone from strength to strength.  This FW'15 collection is no exception, and one of my favourites of NYFW.  The silhouettes, the beautiful textures and luscious leather, and that glorious floral print that was found a couple of looks, were just gorgeous (for want of a better word): 

Isa Arfen

This designer has only been showing for 2 years, and I only discovered her last year, but quickly fell in love with her languid long lines, and beautiful outerwear and 'off-duty' workwear aesthetic:

Prabal Gurung

You all know about my love for coats...these are just stunning:

3.1 Phillip Lim

Although he has changed his aesthetic considerably since his 'Koi Suwannagate collaborative pieces' that I loved so much, I am continuously enamoured with his work:

No frilly lace, no tulle (not that there has been in previous collections), but Vera Wang's RTW is just gorgeous (sorry, there's that word again).

GM2NY - Get me to New York (pretty please with sugar on top?) - and how to tie a scarf

I have been meaning to post about GM2NY for months now, since mid last year even, since I got my first scarf from this Sydney-based label, but just as well, as I have since then been lucky enough to add their gorgeous shoes and wallets to my 'collection'.  Even though I wore my cashmere-blend scarf to death, with its gorgeous Mancoon print on it, I never felt my picture of it did it justice.  The large size is no longer available, but the square pocket is.  I thought I'd post a link to it to demonstrate how one would never realize or see the 'big picture' on these gorgeous scarves were they not stretched out.  When I first saw the beautiful prints I wondered how one could wear what could essentially be a beautiful wall hanging; but when worn, the beautiful shades and colours on the print produce a beautiful and abstract effect instead of a picture (as seen in my photo of the scarf below, and in the many pictures on the website). 

Created in 2012 by the lovely Rhamya Freitas, 'Get me to New York' combines fashion with travel and style.  With beautiful silk and cashmere scarves, gorgeous leather travel wallets (with the most beautiful silk lining - see this pic), stunning silk shoes and more (even cushions!), Rhamya presents a cohesive collection of liquid soft silks with vibrant prints of city skylines and travel inspired landscapes.  Each designs is born from a photo, so that each creation is a snapshot of a city travelled, which in turn becomes a wearable piece of art.  Having said that, I find her shoes deserved to be framed and hung on a wall, just look at them!

There are several items currently on sale in GM2NY's store, including the lovely Albion silk scarf I also have (the silk is uber soft).  I am in love with my burnt orange leather travel wallet, can't wait to take it abroad, although I am more than happy to 'travel' with it to a cafe or restaurant...

To encourage myself to wear my silk scarves more (GM2NY and not), I have included a brilliant video I found a while ago, made by Nordstrom, on how to tie 4 scarves 16 ways.  Having used sarongs extensively, many styles I had known of previously, but there are a few I have yet to try.  The video shows one of my favourite ways of using a scarf in an unexpected way (as a kimono jacket), I also used to love tying my scarves into dresses and tops.

I like big bows and I cannot lie...

For someone who doesn't see herself as particularly 'girly', I never realized how much I loved bows until recently.  I thought it was more of my little sister's trademark, but remembered I have been buying bows for quite a few years now, even back to when Alice McCall did those rhinestoned silk bow belts, remember those?

I have also been slightly obsessed with bows on jewellery, such as the Balenciaga bow rings I bought in silver for myself and my sisters.

But above all, my little collection of bows on shoes has grown somewhat in the last year or so, starting with the Isabel Marant Poppy, then the Aminah Jillil bow flats (that I blogged about previously - I loved my red pair so much I bought the cobalt blue pair as well), and most recently the Isabel Marant Pealman (which are lower than the Poppy - bought on sale from Net-a-Porter).  I'm even considering this leopard calf hair version (on sale)  available at Forward (only thing is I can never envisage myself in leopard, but am beginning to think I am open to leopard shoes if they are the right ones).

For those who prefer their bows to be more subtle I recently came across this Lois black suede pair from Madewell (on sale), and have added it to my wishlist...just in case.
