Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012: Pt 1 - Dries Van Noten

Dries Van Noten

I first drafted this post with smaller pictures, but really, I had to change to larger pictures, because the beauty is in the details with Dries Van Noten. At first glance I thought I was looking at 3-4 different collections in the one, simple minimalist pieces with clean lines, followed by beautiful Chinese monochromatic prints (the kind I grew up seeing hanging in my parent's house), followed by more tropical and bold prints, prints were collaged from seventeenth-century botanical etchings, jungle scenes, and seascapes, and night-scape prints by English photographer James Reeves, Reeve's almost-abstractions looked like scatterings of colored crystals, which Van Noten literalized, decorating one skirt with actual stones to replicate the lights in Reeve's photo of a building in Marseille. I preferred the clean-lines of the clothes, not really a fan of the fancy bolero and peplum/ruffled pants, and the occasional odd-shaped shoulders on the shirts, but there was so much to love:

I absolutely love the two looks above!

I love how Dries used the ribbon for his shirt/vests/coats again.

This is one of my favourite pieces of this collection, the palest of blues embellishments on the relaxed white 'safari' jacket...just gorgeous

Love this outfit too, even though these pants wouldn't look 1/100th as good on my short stature, but I love that gorgeous colour on the jacket, and simple lines all over.

Not an ensemble I would have thought: "Dries Van Noten", but such gorgeous colours...

I love this dress, simple silhouette accented by that beautiful lace.

I just love that pop of yellow on that print.

That skirt!!!

Simple...gorgeous.

Love this look!

Not a fan of the shirt, but I love the skirt...

I love the clever use of Reeve's print on this beautifully simple dress

GORGEOUS coat!

I always love Dries' use of orange, this shade is gorgeous...

  1. Perfect collection for DVN, I can't decide which one I like the most but I am loving the digital printed designs on the fabric - especially the palm fronds.

  4. Never ever disappoints, that is for sure. I buy a couple of pieces every season, and they are also timeless. Tough to find a wide selection in Madrid though... thanks for posting! Your blog is great e eu adoro brigadeiro!
