Window shopping for cocktail dresses for M.

This morning I got a text from my friend M, asking me to help her find a cocktail for a birthday party: "a bit of a classic short.  Something to make me look fantastic."

Seriously, a potato sack would look fantastic on M, she is the definition of yummy mummy.  Ok, M, this is what I'm thinking: understated sexy and elegant, not too prim or demure.  I'm hoping that one of these below tickle your fancy.  I included the prices, because seriously, for some of them, they are such amazing bargains, that if you don't get them I will, haha!

I looked at a few other online stores, but Barneys Warehouse had the best dresses IMHO.  I am not sure about some of these dresses below for you, but thought I'd include them just in case...

All dresses below available from Barneys Warehouse.

Givenchy Two Tone dress ($469 from $1860), Alexander Wang Twisted Muscle Tee dress (US$299 from $999), Helmut Lang Draped Sleeveless Dress ($219 from $520)

Belstaff Salford dress ($269 from $1095), Stella McCartney Eyelet dress ($329 from $1330), Christopher Kane Sleeveless gathered dress ($369 from $1495)
Givenchy Satin Inset Sheath Dress ($669 from $2670), Christopher Kane gathered mini dress ($329 from $1300), Derek Lam Pierced Flared dress ($380 from $950)

Hope this is of some help? I only did a quick search because I know you need it by next weekend, so would have to order asap to get them in time.  I couldn't think of anything within Australia, I'm afraid.

Apologies if I am on the wrong track...

New in: Stella McCartney Floral Applique Lace dress

I previously posted how I fell head over heels over Stella McCartney's lace pieces (well, many others too) from a previous Resort collection, I haven't been able to take this dress out of my mind:

And here it is, it arrived just as I was poring over this beautiful Editorial by Giovanna Battaglia for the 189th time in Vogue Australia's latest September Issue
The 3D lace effect is amazing...

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Happy Father's Day to your loved ones!

Recent buy: Willow cotton gauze gather shirt and dress: seeing double?

I did not intend to go shopping today.  But whilst in town running errands with Lil' Brigs #2, I walked through a department store and spotted the Willow cotton gauze gather dress and shirt, and wasn't sure which to get (well, I was pretty certain about the shirt, but was feeling silly/guilty about getting the dress as well).  As Lil' Brigs #2 started getting more and more vocal about being stuck in a pram, guess which one I bought?

Yes, you guessed it, both:

Well, the fact that they were reduced shouldn't play into the fact that I bought them both (am upset to later find the dress is $10 less at the Willow store! I know it's 'only' $10, but still...).  I bought them because I found the shirt would be so easy to throw on with shorts or jeans, or dressy pants or pencil skirt.  The shirt dress was such an easy one-piece outfit...I thought they'd go with a pair of ankle boots, with flat sandals or even Isabel Marant sneakers/Dicker boots.  Well, that was my rationale anyway.

Ok, confession time.  This purchase is just one of many of items that I've duplicated (or in some case more than duplicated) in different colours, or sizes, or in this case, lengths...

My sisters make fun of me regarding this and my indecisiveness...

Just a few of the items in my wardrobe in two colours *gulp*

Please tell me I'm not the only one with this 'problem'?

Window Shopping for dresses at the 'sales' for L

Back in the day, one of my favourite things to do was shopping with friends or my sisters, picking stuff off the racks and handing it for them to try on, which I thought would suit them and that they would (hopefully) love...Nowadays, trawling stores has been replaced by clicking my mouse through online stores, so when my SIL L asked me to help her find some dresses to add to her wardrobe, I thought I'd check some of my favourite stores, as there are some brilliant discounts/sales going on (I am a fan of getting as much as you can for your money)!

n.b. clicking on any image or description should lead you to the page where you can see further details/pics/buy:

Diane Von Furstenberg striped silk Karin dress ($280 from $400) and Rick Owens draped silk dress ($538 from $1075)

Marc Jacobs green silk mesh trim dress ($360 from $1200) and Proenza Schouler Mesh Top dress ($298 from $995) - these make great party dresses, a little girlier than you're probably used to, but so cute!

Rick Owens long pillar dress ($298 from $995) - I would shorten this to slightly below knee-length, although it may seem sacrilegious to some - and Proenza Schouler gathered waist dress ($506 from $1685) - you have to see this in the enlarged size to see the beautiful details

Rick Owens grey drape dress ($202 from $405) and Rick Owens grey sleeveless dress ($330 from $1100)

Michael Angel layered silk dress ($252 from $840) Diane von Furstenbery cherry Linnia dress ($172 from $350)

Under.Ligne by Doo.Ri black draped dress ($198 from $495) and Under.Ligne by Doo.Ri green draped wrap dress ($346 from $495)

Preen Blue Zaza Dress ($628 from $1255) and Preen Blue Frock dress ($470 from $1565) - these are a bit over budget, but I think these are worthy investments! How cute is that Zaza dress? It looks a bit like the Maje Madison dress you asked me to find for you L, (which I could only find in blue, in a size 3 HERE, the black seems to be sold out everywhere, I also tracked the green version in a size 1 on Ebay)...although I must admit I like the Preen dress better, am seriously eyeing it...

A few more...

Jan Ahlgren red silk dress (would look stunning with your Zanotti flats - beautiful for a garden wedding!) and Vivienne Westwood Anglomania red dress

Balenciaga silk draped dress and Jan Ahlgren square jersey drape dress

Acne Magenta dress and Jan Ahlgren black wool dress

Erdem Marlena dress and Diane Von Furstenberg Naira dress

Diane Von Furstenberg Lehana dress in blue and aubergine

Bottega Veneta dress (a worthy investment IMO) and Cerruti Ottoman draped dress

Ok, I had better stop here...or I will never stop! As you can see, I went a little overboard, but hopefully you will find something you like in here, will work on the striped tops and top for your leather pants next!

Recent Buy: Willow Sunset Dress at Shopbop Summer Sale up to 70%

I was so happy to receive an email from Shopbop announcing further reductions on their sale (up to 70%). I finally bought the Willow dress (I posted about here), which I have wanted since I first saw it when shopping with my sisters (but with a baby bump, I didn't dare try it on), but now at 70% off! Things are selling like hotcakes, so I suggest going having a look ASAP (or not, if you are trying to be good - I would hate to be a bad influence on anyone, haha)!

Shopbop's Summer SALE | New Markdowns on What You Need Now

I have seen this dress (pictured left) in real life and really love the fresh and cheerful colours on the tweed, and most of all, the zip detail, always a bonus when nursing...

There were so many pieces I really wanted to buy, and most of them were unfortunately (or fortunately, from my wallet's point of view) sold out in my size. Here are some of my favourite pieces (clicking on any pic or description will lead you to the item's page, except for most of my Willow purchases right at the bottom of the post, as they are no longer available):

Willow Sunset dress and Palm Print dress (for any American readers, do keep in mind sizing is Australian/UK - I think that is a possible reason why these were still up for grabs, just a theory)

Doo.Ri runway printed and draped (with leather detail) dress

3.1 Phillip Lim detachable panels yellow jacket (such a glorious colour!) and Dion Lee placket shirt (shame the blue sold out)

Zero+Maria Cornejo yellow shift draped dress and stunning blue leather jacket (sadly neither in my size left)

Peter Som orchid dress (absolutely gorgeous! so tempted...) and Equipment Brett shirt (wish the Poppy colour were reduced too!)

Peter Som blouse (none left in my size, or I'd snap it up, such a bargain, and such a beautiful statement piece!) and skirt.

Remember these KC Pointer chambray shoes from this post? They are now reduced to $66!

I also really like the look of those Acne Clover boots, and the Maison Martin Margiela cutout wedge booties are also 70% (wonder if they do indeed run small as the reviewer says...)!
Pointer KC Lace Up Chambray Sneakers

I just realised I have been on quite a Willow shopping spree of late! Here are some other recent Willow items that have made their way into my wardrobe:

I bought the silk tunic pictured tucked under the skirt on the left, but in the coral colour on the right (same colour as the trim on the skirt), as well as the skirt in the right picture...I have been eyeing this draped Willow skirt for so long! I also really like the tunic dress in purple, available on sale at Net-a-Porter at the moment.

And these silk jackets, although I am thinking of altering both at the shoulders, on me, they seem to 'stick out so much! I also have the dress version of the 'geometric' jacket on the left, and have worn it so so much!
