Singapore: Little India & Haji Lane

Loved the vibrant colours in Little India...it almost reminded me of La Boca in Buenos Aires, as did Haji Lane as well.
Wearing Gap striped tee I bought in Paris for 2.99 euros, with Dries Van Noten sarong-style skirt, Havaianas Slim sandals, and Lil J in an ErgoBaby carrier (which I bought for this trip, and now love)

Lil J looking so peaceful in her ErgoBaby Carrier

Love me some tropical fruit...yum, rambutans!

Hubby had to have 'kambing soup' (goat)

Biryani rice, shame I was too full to sample any...

LOVE mangosteens!

Haji Lane (off Arab Street) was filled with cute little bars, stores and eateries

It may be funny to eat Mexican food in Singapore, but we wanted a nice spot to 'regroup', and I could not resist the sound of a mango & salmon ceviche (Peruvian dish at a Mexican place in Singapore...hm).

Haji Lane was vibrant, cute, quirky and fun...

Singapore: Chinatown & Ann Siang Hill

Apologies once again for going MIA without prior warning. I have been 'entertaining' family (my parents are visiting from Brazil, and my sister and gorgeous 7 month-old nephew were here for a week too), and have barely sat at the computer.

Anyway, following on from my previous post, here are more pics of my recent trip to Singapore. I quite enjoyed checking out Chinatown and the area nearby it, called Ann Siang Hill. The latter boasted cute little stores, restaurants, patisseries and cafes, with beautiful colonial architecture in glorious colours:

I am afraid I am not one of those glamorous fashion bloggers who totter around in 5" heels whilst travelling, donning runway-worthy garb. Hidden behind the pram I am wearing a 3.1 Phillip Lim draped skirt I love though, must try to take a pic of it sometime soon...

I was thankful that hubby restrained from purchasing this tee...

Loved the architecture, and beautifully painted buildings.

Freshly made sugar cane juice for hubby, and for me, one of my all-time favourite drinks: fresh young coconut juice, which I had with one of my favourite dishes: Hainanese chicken rice from Tian Tian at Maxwell Food Centre.

At Ann Siang Hill, a swanky neighbourhood next to Chinatown

Hubby was so excited to see this high chair in a cute little boutique with funky stuff, which was also a fancy patisserie. He said he sat in high chairs such as this as a kid, a week later, Lil J sat in one such chair in Malaysia, although it was not in such good condition as this one.

I remember seeing these dolls at my grandma's place when I was growing up, if you knock them down, they swing right back...

This gorgeous tricycle was too precious for words, and sadly, with a $1,115.00 price tag on it, Lil J will not be riding one anytime soon...

I have heard so much about Singapore's Chilli Crab, I just had to try one for myself...

Singapore: Along Orchard Road

I was pleasantly surprised by Singapore, as it was my first time there, hubby will argue 'til he's blue in the face that Malaysian food is better, but I greatly enjoyed the food in Singers, as well as the Designer-strewn Orchard Road (it seems there was an LV, Miu Miu, Prada, Chanel, Hermes store every few steps!):

Wish that ceramic piece were for sale!

Eating at Warung M Nasir, hubby was in heaven, our favourite was a vegetable curry made of tapioca leaves, we had never heard of it, but loved it.

Wish I had saved some room for those pineapple tarts...

Kaya toast - look at that huge slab of butter! What you cannot see is the incredible 'kaya' - delicious coconut spread, yuuummmmm...This was from the original Killiney Kopitiam.

Incredible architecture along Orchard Road.

Loved this peach/pear/sculpture outside the Armani store.

Crayfish laksa...*drool* this was sooooo goood!

Apologies for the blurry pic, but I thought I'd show you the Oak silk tunic I am wearing, as I love its shape. I had previously posted about it here, and simply adore the oversized sleeve and draped silhouette it gives.

A store that specialised in 'long yoke' - a sweet & savoury flattened ultra tasty piece of pork (or chicken)

It has been so long since I have posted an outfit pic, Lil J practised a few blogger poses when we got back to the hotel, just to show me how it's really done...

Next Destination: Singapore and Malaysia

A few weeks ago I booked my tickets to Singapore and Malaysia, mostly to attend Mr Brigs' cousin's wedding in Malaysia. It will be my first time in Singapore, and although I never really had the interest to visit this country before (please don't shoot me), I am getting excited...

I am now trying to research the must-do, sees and most importantly, eats (as well as some 'shops' perhaps?) in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Even though I have already been to the latter city, I feel I did not get to experience the amazing food my hubby is so patriotic about (don't even hint to him that Singaporean food is better than Malaysian, or a war will be raged on you), and that everyone else raves about.

So far, my research has added these to my must do's/sees/eats list:

Singapore:
Time available - almost 4 days
  1. High Tea at Raffles' Tiffin Room (must make a booking ASAP)
  2. Chicken Rice at Tian Tian (my research has told me this is the best in Singapore)
  3. Chilli Crab (I am dying to try this dish, after seeing/hearing/reading about it for so long) at 'No Signboard Seafood Restaurant' (and/or Jumbo Seafood and Long Beach Seafood restaurant in East Lagoon Food Village)
  4. Black Pepper Crab at Eng Seng Restaurant
  5. Go to Haji lane for shopping and also finding little eateries
  6. Go to Little India - eat at Banana Leaf Apollo on Racecourse Road
  7. Shop on Orchard Road (#1 destination: Dries Van Noten store) - I hear the super sales are on in Singapore, and am banking on the idea that there should be plenty in my size as everyone is so slim and petite in Singapore).
  8. Not sure about the usual tourist destinations (eg. Sentosa Zoo for Night Safari, which I would love to do, but will find hard to do with Lil J (who will be 14 months old by then).
Kuala Lumpur:

Time available - almost 4 days
  1. Shop at Pavillion (it wasn't there the last time I visited)
  2. Shop at KLCC (both of these are just for 'museum' shopping really).
  3. Shop at Chinatown Central Markets - I cannot get enough of their batik handpainted silk scarves...
  4. Eat at Jalan Alor - don't have any particular restaurant yet.
  5. Must do more research...'
I have yet to book my accommodation, but in Malaysia I will most likely be staying in the city, near KLCC.

I would love to hear any recommendations you might have on what to do/see/eat/shop/stay/buy in either city. Thanks in advance!

xx
