Shoes: Dries Van Noten, Pants: Sass & Bide, Singlet: SABA, Watch: Calvin Klein, Jacket: Zac Posen (eek! I do have a neck, I promise!)
As I was tidying my wardrobe, this Zac Posen silk bolero caught my eye. It has been sitting in my wardrobe for a year or so, feeling unloved, unworn & neglected, as it still has its tags attached to it.
When I first saw it I fell in love with its vivid colours and subtle gold streaks through it, its soft pleated silk, and the fact that it seemed so artistic, with its bold splashes of 'paint' & dramatic design (visions of 'Dynasty' flash through my mind). Every time I reached for it I realised I was not daring enough: fears of looking like a clown or a matador restrained me from wearing it.
Perhaps pairing it with Harem pants would not help the 'looking like a clown' situation, and I always envisioned wearing it with distressed jeans and white tank top. Seeing I no longer fit any of my jeans, these will have to do for now (I just happened to be wearing the black outfit under the bolero today). I think I may just bite the bullet and wear it out (time to cut off those tags)...
I'm curious: How would you wear this jacket/bolero?
So pretty! It's like you're wearing a piece of oragami!
ReplyDeleteOmg that jacket is art! Gorgeous art
ReplyDeleteLinda jaqueta! Adorei!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi!! I hope you wouldn't mind that I grabbed one photo and uploaded it to my PRIVATE multiply site. Brigadeiro is one of my favorite fashion blogs and I want to recommend your blog to my friends and family.. I wanted to send you an email but I got dizzy looking for your email addy..LOL..
ReplyDeleteRegards!
WOW! what an amazing bolero!
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling!
I would take it over the top and pair it with a similarly melony colored dress, hopefully vintage w/ sequins! TOTALLY dynasty!
<3 the dries as always, you have an amazing eye!
Oh, wow, thanks Jane! That's such a compliment! Especially seeing I absolutely love love love your style! I like your suggestion! I used to take more 'risks' when I was younger, must start that up again! :)
ReplyDelete=o i agree with diamonsinchampagne, it really is art, absolutely stunning! I would probably team it up with a body hugging black mini and perhaps a white gold clutch to connect with the bolero, but i must say the outfit u have here is stunning!
ReplyDeleteAnd also i was wondering if you lived in Sydney, Akira is is having an end of year sale with up to 85 percent off =D Textile pieces and clothing from his Black label are up for sale =]
Thanks madame dior! How I'd love to have the figure to wear a body hugging mini! I agree your suggestion would look hot! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the heads up on the Akira sale! Boo hoo! Sadly, I don't live in Sydney (especially sad in instances like this). Will you be going? Hopefully I can live vicariously through you ;)
unfortunately i wont be able to go =[ i have a final exam on Friday =/ and sadly when sales are on i never have money! and when sales aren't on that's when i do have money, fashion works in mysterious ways doesn't it =D
ReplyDeleteFabulous bolero! I would pair it with dark denim jeans & a fab pair of patent leather red heels with a fitted white tank top (t-back style).
ReplyDeleteThanks beauty parler & H of Candid Cool for your suggestions!
ReplyDeleteThey sound like what I had what I had always intended to wear with it: skinny distressed jeans & a white tank top (great minds think alike?). Sadly, in the last year or so, my ever-increasing weight (almost 25 pounds now! BOO HOO!), and purchasing one 'fat jeans' after another, I can no longer fit the 'latest fat jeans'! Goal #1 - fit into them! I will then attempt the suggested outfits with what I have in my wardrobe.
Jane of SeaofShoes suggestion above was to use this bolero with a melony coloured sequinned vintage dress, sounds fab!
Madame Dior - oh no! How sad (I totally hear you, except for me it's not buying as much when shopping in actual shops)! Good luck on Friday! ;)
i was just about to comment on your blog when i got your comment on my most recent post about vogue uk... that post was done in an incredible high after i saw the pics, i've calmed down a bit now, but aren't they just beautiful? are you a subscriber then? i think i should become one... is it cheaper than buying it air freight?
ReplyDeleteah doesn't it annoy you how expensive mags are in aus? your about me is very intriguing... you have lived all over the world! i've only spent 1 year living in england, the rest have been in australia the whole time... i can't wait to travel and live in other places in a few years. :D
now, this is such a stunning bolero. what a gorgeous piece! however did you find it? it looks like such a piece of fashion artistry. i would wear it with cigarette pants probably, a la audrey hepburn with black flats... make it a statement piece.
also, the comment you left on my wedding dress post... i followed the link to see you BEAUTIFUL STUNNING WEDDING DRESS! i was actually eyes wide as saucers and in awe of your dress. you are so lucky to find something as beautiful and interesting and classic as that dress. akira is verily a god among men, right? that dress was absolutely amazing, i love it, and the fact that it matched your bridesmaid's was just lovely.
thankyou for all your lovely comments,
XXX
I love it! I would wear it with . . . I dunno, maybe some sort of extreme pattern clashing? I would definitely wear it with the highest, fiercest heels I owned, which, given I am 14, are simple red pumps about 2.5 inches high but I assume you have some higher ones.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow hrose! Thanks for dropping by and for your comment (longest I've ever had, which I absolutely love!
ReplyDeleteYep, I subscribe to UK Vogue, as it saves me a lot of $, Only $120 for 12 issues (definitely recommend it, I never purchased air freight, as a matter of principle, $17.95?!? Which meant I was always a few issues behind)! I agree, mags are ridiculously expensive here! I subscribe to Elle US too (SO cheap, I think $60ish for 2 years?), shame Elle UK doesn't offer worthy subscriptions overseas, they're up there with UK Vogue), and I won a year's subscription to AUS Vogue, so I try to justify my magazine spending in that I've tried saving wherever I could!
Re: Bolero - I found it on Net-a-Porter (my shopping godsend), and I'm a huge fan of Zac Posen! Ooh! I love your suggestion! Thank you! Must slim down to fit into cigarette pants...BTW, adore Audrey Hepburn!
Thanks for your comment on my wedding dress! I felt silly leaving my link there, but got so excited seeing all those wedding dresses! I worship the ground Akira walks on (as you may see by my blog), and heard he has a sale on in Sydney this weekend!!! I'm SO gutted it won't be in Melbourne instead (heading there this weekend)! My city doesn't even have an Akira store! :( The range in DJ's is pitiful (only his 'red' label), I'm so in the wrong city!
I'm in love with your blog, and am furtively reading it (minimized window, fastforwarding the pics) at work (shhhhh...). Would you like to exchange links? :)
PS. I can't believe you're so young and yet write SO beautifully, with wisdom beyond your years! Am feeling very unworthy...
xx
Thanks for the suggestion KD! I had thought of my 4" red pumps too (although not necessarily my fiercest heels, I love red)! And at 14 I think my highest heels were probably 1" max, so you're doing pretty good! ;)
ReplyDeletei absoutely love everything about that bolero. i'd wear it with even more multi colored things. dress, perhaps. brilliant!
ReplyDeleteYou wore it perfectly, I would also try with simple a-line skirt.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that is so beautiful, traffic stopping!
ReplyDeleteI certainly don't think you look like a clown, in fact UI think they look perfect with the harem pants, and I wish I could find such gems at the back of my wardrobe!
x
what a beautiful original and artistic jacket !!! maybe i would wear it with a very simple black (or tangerine if you are not afraid of bright colours) bustier dress, because the cut and print of the jacket is so stunning.
ReplyDeleteoh wow thats awesome...i love those sass and bide pants aswell. id probably wear it like you did, but with more simple pants to make people focus on it more haha x
ReplyDeleteabsolutely brilliant
ReplyDeletewhere are your shoes from?
Thanks everyone for your lovely comments & suggestions...I'm thinking I should try them all out & post them up one day (have to fit back into my jeans first).
ReplyDeleteOla Gala! My shoes are by Dries Van Noten (one of my favourite designers).
wow u'r so fierce !! that's a great outfit
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'd wear it with a white tank, jeans, and heeled booties. But I love how you've styled it as well!
ReplyDeletelove how you are wearing it! the black really makes it pop
ReplyDeleteI really really love your bolero... Glad you kept the trousers:) This doesn't make you look like a clown trust me it looks great:) Hmmm... how would I wear it? I'd probably wear it with a cami and a midi or maxi skirt that's fully embellished or beaded:D Loving your shoes by the way:)
ReplyDeleteThat jacket is absolutely gorgeous! Zac Posen is such a talented designer. Love the way you wear it, such a lovely look xox
ReplyDeleteI think I'd wear with all the rest black like you did! What a fabulous jacket!

ReplyDeleteryan manning - if that's not spam, what is? :)

ReplyDeleteI love that jacket. That pants look great on you too.
ReplyDeleteI really like the stylish contrast between the shimmering bolero and the "total black look", virulently full of GLAMorous casualness !!!

cheryl - sorry about making you dizzy, I have now added a contact email. Thanks for your comment, I am so flattered! And...embarassed, haha! Hope the picture isn't a silly 'pose' photo, I cringe whenever I see them. BTW, what's a 'multiply' site? Please excuse my ignorance...
ReplyDeleteSusie, the clothes horse & diamondsinchampagne - Thank you!
the clothes horse - Yay! That's what I thought too! I love origami, and the amazingly beautiful origami papers!
Obrigada carolina!
