London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 Pt 3: Burberry Prorsum

Burberry Prorsum

I have been eagerly awaiting Christopher Bailey's F/W'11 collection for Burberry Prorsum, and I am not disappointed. There were outerwear in many colors, textures and shapes, introducing volume with egglike shapes, lantern sleeves and bubble back, they were gentle sculptures. With a heavy early 60's flavour (matched by a wicked 60's soundtrack), matching bags to coats was de rigueur. The signature trench made its appearance, of course, some were fashioned from white silk jacquard made to look and feel like aran knits, while others came in tweed and had a Sherlock Holmes feel — and a touch of luxe thanks to fur on the shoulders and collars. Some coats were inspired by Jean Shrimpton, including the opening orange number with epaulets (one of my favourites from this collection) while others — in shades of Wedgwood blue, teal or olive — had more of a military feel with leather duffle fastenings lashed across the front (which I was not really a fan of). New proportions were also present, including funnel-neck lumberjack check, or quilted cape styles with flaring kimono sleeves; once again, I did not really like these, as I found the silhouettes too retro or awkward and unwieldly; I did, however, like the flirty peplums on the military jackets (this one in particular), and the gorgeous bags (loved the belts too, and breathed a sigh of relief when I realized I will not be obsessing over the footwear like I did last season):

  2. I do like the first orange coat but I do wish they'd put in a collar though! I do like coats with dramatic collars :D
