David Szeto Spring/Summer 2011: Liberté - Pt 2

David Szeto

Spring Summer 2011

Collection: Liberté

Draped Dresses

This is my favourite dress of this collection, a classic David Szeto design (I recently bought a similar Szeto dress in a beautiful bottle green) beautifully reinvented. The ruched gathers at the shoulder can be folded inwards towards the sleeve for a shoulder pad effect or outwards to add a cascade of ruffles a the neckline. I particularly love the bold graphic 'middle' contrasting the rest of the dress so beautifully and pulled together with a tan leather belt. The red & purple colour combination in particular...so vibrant & fresh!

So simple and beautiful...

Twisted shoulder straps and hand tucked pleats...

Different fabric makes this dress so different from the same design in the silver lame above. I am partial to this one more due to the beautiful bold graphic in the middle once again.

David Szeto describes this dress as one of the most complex dresses he's made; Draped side hip "ruched flower" sleeveless dress, the flower is draped into the pattern and ruched by hand. This is another dress he labels as having a great cut for curves - brilliant!

Draped in wool voile...

  5. The last two dresses(three pics) are based on Vionnet's four-scarves design. It's quite impressive how such a simple desing, four pieces of fabric which corners joined at the shoulders and four seams(one at the back, two at the sides, one at the front), can be reinvented by a designer and become something fresh. Beautiful as all the other! Thank you for showing us these!
    Love, Danae

PS. I made a four-scarves dress last summer and it came out great. Maybe I'll make one like Szeto's next year.
